The Path Of Mind Body Syndromes

The process of developing MBS

  1. Childhood stress primes the brain to react with fear and resentment/anger; It also creates sadness for self

  2. Teen and adult stress triggers those same reactions

  3. Personality traits lead to increased pressure we put on ourselves

  4. The sub-conscious brain controls our bodies and the above

reactions trigger the danger signal in the sub-conscious brain, which leads to conscious messages of danger, in the form of symptoms

  5. MBS symptoms are real, but not tissue damage situations. They occur due to activation of the danger signal (amygdala), which activates the autonomic nervous system to activate the fight of flight and the freeze or submit response

  6. These cause muscle activation, neurological activation, GI and GU activation and others, which lead directly to MBS symptoms

  7. This creates more activation of the danger response and a vicious cycle of learned neural pathways occurs

  8. These symptoms are increased with more focus, worry, attention to the symptoms and more stress

  9. Triggers are situations that cause the brain to activate symptoms, such as foods, light, activities, movements, etc.

10. The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) activates and pause and plan response, which counteracts the danger response -we can train this
